Many
students and parents are confused about calculating the GPA.
The school automatically computes each student’s GPA.
However, if you want to compute your GPA yourself, follow
the steps provided below.
Calculating Term GPA
The following steps are used to calculate GPA for one term:
1. List each course you have taken in school for one term
Follow this Example

2. Assign grade point values to each letter grades.
Point Values for
Letter Grades
Institutions compute current term and cumulative GPAs
on the student's grade reports and academic transcripts
according to their school’s current grading scale.
Some institutions have implemented a new grading system,
which includes the use of "plus or minus"
grades. Below is a comparison of the new and old grade
points.

NOTE: Grades earned of A, B, C, D, or P is considered
completed grades. Grades of I (Incomplete),NC (Noncredit
Courses), W (Withdrawal), and AU (Audits) are not considered
complete grades and are not calculated in the GPA. In
the case of a repeat course, only the higher grade is
calculated into the grade point average. Remedial courses,
up to 30 hours are typically not counted toward credit
hour completion. |

To calculate cumulative
GPA follow these steps: |
1. |
Add the total grade points
for each term
37.01 (term 1) + 27.0 (term 2) = 64.01 (total grade
points) |
2. |
Add the total credit hours for each
term
14 (term 1) + 12 (term 2) = 26 (total credits) |
3. |
Divide the total number of grade points
by the total number of credits for all terms to obtain
cumulative GPA.
Total
Grade Points (64.01) / Total Credits (26) = 2.461
