Once
your FAFSA has been received and processed by the federal
processor, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) within
48 hours of filing on the web or 4-6 weeks if filing a paper
FAFSA. The SAR summarizes the information you provided on
the FAFSA in which the processor reviewed, analyzed, and calculated
your Expected Family Contribution. This figure will serve
as a guideline to determine your eligibility for federal,
state, and institutional aid.
When you receive your SAR, you must review it carefully
for accuracy and correct any discrepancies. If any changes
or corrections to your SAR are necessary, promptly submit
your corrections online or by mail. If your FAFSA was completed
without any problems, your EFC will be printed above your
Data Release Number (DRN) in the upper right hand corner.
Your SAR will be mailed to each of the financial aid offices
of the colleges and universities that you listed on the
FAFSA. Each school’s financial aid office will take
the information provided on the SAR to estimate your financial
need and determine your eligibility for federal and institutional
aid.
If it has been more than four weeks since you submitted
your application and you have not received anything, you
can check on the status of your application through the
FAFSA
on the Web (even if you did not apply using FAFSA on
the Web), or by contacting the Federal Student Aid Information
Center at 800-4-FED-AID (800-433-3243) or 800-730-8913 (TTY)
for the hearing impaired.
